Same river, same weather, different city
The Red River does not care which state it is running through, and neither does the wind or the winter, so a Moorhead roof and a Fargo roof face the identical set of problems: ice dams from the same freeze-thaw pattern, the same cottonwood and box elder debris load, and the same summer storm season coming off the open prairie. Where Moorhead differs is the permitting and inspection process on the Minnesota side, and we handle that paperwork the same way we would on any Minnesota job rather than assuming Fargo's process carries across the river.
Moorhead's older neighborhoods near Concordia and the downtown core have housing stock similar in age to Fargo's comparable neighborhoods, with the same wood fascia and undersized original venting that shows up on our older Fargo calls.
Flood-adjacent lots and gutter placement
A number of Moorhead properties sit close enough to the river that spring flood risk factors into how we think about grading and downspout placement, even on a straightforward gutter job. Dumping downspout water toward a yard that already floods most springs just adds to a problem the homeowner is already managing. We route downspouts toward established drainage on these lots rather than defaulting to whatever direction is closest to the house.
Ice dams on Moorhead's older housing
Moorhead's post-war neighborhoods have the same shallow-attic ranch and cape construction common on the Fargo side, and the same ice dam pattern shows up here every winter. Air sealing, insulation depth, and functional soffit-to-ridge ventilation are the fix regardless of which side of the river the house sits on, and we run the same diagnostic process here that we run in Fargo, checking the attic first rather than assuming the roof itself is the problem.
